3 Looks: My wedding dress

It's been a very long time since I did the whole "one main piece, three looks" thing - almost exactly 4 years, to be precise. Back in the day I went through my entire collection of main pieces twice (though of course, pieces came and went as I moved through it) and I found it a really fun and helpful exercise. But then I did the AYWI30C challenge, and didn't want to have two flatlay series going on at once.

However, I'm not done with that, and back on board with this! Since I like doing these things "in order" I have a little document going. The first time I did this I recorded the order, then the second time I repeated it, but added in new pieces as the arrived. Since I always intended to do this again, I've been adding all my new main pieces to the top of list from oldest to newest.

So the oldest main piece of mine that I have done a "three looks" for just so happens to be my wedding dress.

It's an amazingly beautiful dress, as well as obviously having a lot of sentimental value as my wedding dress. My actual wedding coord included a matching bolero, but I wanted to explore options that didn't sue that, and also that made minimal use of the other pieces I wore for my wedding.

Without further ado, onto the flatlays!

Bolero: Innocent World
Tights, Headbow & Shoes: Taobao
Flower: Kmart
Necklace: Kitten D'Amour
Brooch: Axes Femme

For the first coord, I immediately thought of this Innocent World bolero, because it also has beautiful lace. And things built up pretty organically from there! To me, this is a fairly "standard" classic coordinate - very nice, but not particularly noteworthy. BUt as I always say...that's okay, things don't need to be noteworthy to be good!

Blouse: Lady Sloth
Socks: Innocent World
Shoes: Taobao
Flower crown: Lyris Design
Flower: Offbrand
Brooch: Peppermint Fox

However, I did want to try something a little more unexpected, and decided to use my salmon pink blouse/shoes combo. I was a little unsure about how it would work but I shouldn't have been - this is my favourite cord of the three!

Capelet: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
Socks: Innocent World
Shoes: Taobao
Fawn headdress & flower corsage: Taobao (Sweet Dreamer)
Red flowers & bracelets: Offbrand

Admittedly, for the last coord I struggled a bit as I didn't want to use blouses I'd previously worn or flatlay-ed with this dress. But since the struggle led me to a fawn fur look I am very much not complaining! I feel like this coordinate perhaps needs a little tweaking to be perfect, but I'm not quite sure what...and regardless, it's cute and something I wouldn't have done if not for this flatlay post so I'm happy ^__^

I also did a bit of artsy filming of these outfits, so if you'd like to see more check out my YouTube - video will be up later today!

Hope you enjoyed the resumption of this series - I did, and I'm already keen to do the next one.

Get necklace, make coord

Earlier this year an online friend sent me a necklace that she made for me, and it is absolutely stunning! It's really beautiful and wonderfully made and of course, my first impulse was to start building outfits around it. It took me a very long time to actually do it, but I finally put together a flatlay worthy of this gorgeous piece.

I ran with my wedding dress as the main piece and pulled together a pretty floral look, which I absolutely adore. I can't wait to wear this sometime!

And, because it's super gorgeous, please admire this close-up of the necklace itself.

I also tried to take a close-up of the necklace in situ but my camera decided to focus on the brooch apparently...oh well, it's still a pretty photo, just a tad blurry!

I'm so happy to have finally done this necklace justice! I also decided to use putting this flatlay together as an opportunity to film a little YouTube video about how I build a coordinate, so please check that out below if you're interested.

Review #54: Wedding Outfits by Lyris Design

So that recent LBC topic about favourite items reminded me that this post was still sitting in my drafts, so I'm finally posting it. This post is more than a little overdue (a year and a half, the shame), but here's a review of my (our) experience working with Lyris Design for our wedding outfits. I was going to do fancy photos, the whole schebang, but it has been over a year so I just wanted to post something. So there's no pretty close-ups or anything, but hey, it's finally posted.

I’m going to put the summary at the start – once again the owner Carly was a pleasure to work with and delivered an amazing result. I thoroughly recommend her services!

Our wedding day <3

But let’s start at the beginning. After we decided that I’d wear lolita for our wedding and James would wear something matching I bought Dramatic Rose in ivory. Unfortunately though, it wasn’t going to work for me so we decided that we’d go for full custom made for both of us. Since we knew Carly would do a great job she was the natural choice (in fact, we didn’t even consider using anyone else). So we got in touch, threw some ideas and inspo images around, and in the end settled on these two designs.

With James's outfit we got both trousers and shorts made so he can wear it as an ouji outfit as well! Which he has done in the several times ^__^

Carly was wonderful with the design process, especially since we were a bit vague on exactly what we wanted. But once she nailed it and we approved the designs it was time to choose fabrics…which was something of an adventure! We sent a lot of messages back forth, often with a lot of delay on our (my) side. She also sent us mock-ups, which we tried on and sent her a very in-depth message about changes. I forget what it was now, but we forgot to mention something at this point, and when we brought it up later it was almost too late, but Carly really goes above and beyond to try and get exactly what you want. I did get a few polite messages of “we really can’t make these changes this late” but she still managed it. I feel pretty bad about handling communication so poorly on my side, to be honest. I mean, it was a tough time for me but still, I know I made her job harder! Sorry Carly!

But anyway, after we’d selected all our fabrics (and had some issues because my lace didn’t arrive so we had a last-minute change there, which actually worked out because I love the new lace better) we flew down to Melbourne for a proper fitting. This was really exciting, because a. wedding outfits and b. we’d actually get to meet Carly in person! It was also stressful, because they day we flew down was a Sunday, and on the Saturday before we’d gotten the keys to our new house and also gone to a party. So we were pretty dead (and starting to get sick). All that aside, it was a cool experience to try on our mockups and spend a bit of time with Carly. Though our flight home was delayed by like three hours....

Shortly after that we received the final garments in the mail, and they were perfect. They still are perfect. Since I'm not taking detail shots I'm not going to gush about everything, but they're amazing. Getting our wedding outfits from Lyris Design was the perfect choice. Not only were the garments well made, perfectly fitted, and designed according to our taste but because of those very reasons they are clothes that we have gotten further wear out of, which we wouldn't have been able to do if we'd gone the traditional route. Check the tag Lyris Design to see some of the other times we've worn these clothes!

Carly sent us photos of the completed outfits of before posting them to us.

I don't have experience working with other designers on custom garments, but honestly Carly has blown me away every single time and I don't want to ever work with anyone else. Mostly her portfolio is more fantasy couture, I suppose, but she's always willing to work with what we've wanted. She has a very good eye and lots of experience, so we always listen when she suggested little changes here and there. Working with her always results in wonderful garments which are better than what we originally asked for.

Since we ordered our wedding outfits, James has commissioned a duplicate of his wedding shirt in black, and we've also put down a deposit to have her do part of a cosplay for him. And I guess more than anything proves that we're really happy with Lyris Design.

Coordinates from January - March 2020

Well, this year has progressed in a very unexpected way, hasn't it? But here, on my blog, we will have regularity, and that is my coord roundup post. Here goes!

Let's start with a confession: I very nearly didn’t take any lolita clothes with me to Japan in February. But in the end I packed some simpler, versatile items and I’m glad I did because I wore lolita twice!

My first lolita coord of 2020 was worn to go out in Harajuku. It’s a very simple outfit, but I liked working tiny bits of pink into the otherwise straightforward black x white outfit. Shirring Princess is an odd dress for me, I don’t really like it very much but it feels good every time I wear it!

JSK, OTKS & Bag: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright.
Bolero: Maxicimam
Shoes: Bodyline
Necklace: Angelic Pretty
Other accessories: Offbrand/MeLikesTea

We went to Harajuku Zooland this day to see all the cute animals, so have a couple of bonus pictures of adorable furry things!

Then when we were in Kyoto I decided to dress up to visit the Railway Museum. James bought me this Drug Honey hoodie earlier in the trip, and it’s one of my new favourite items of clothing. Can you believe that I was actually telling him not to buy it for me?! Good thing he didn’t listen ^__^

JSK, OTKS & Bag: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright.
Hoodie: Drug Honey
Shoes: Bodyline
Beret: Offbrand
Bow: MeLikesTea

James also took a shot of this coord with my new Instax camera! I’ve wanted an Instax for years and finally have one (I also may blog more about it in my Japan Highlights series, because there’s a bit of a story to getting it!) which is so much fun!

Once we came home we were meant to not do much for a while, but of course life had other plans and on March 7th James and I attended our first event with the Newcastle Steampunk Community - a tea duel! I had intended to wear a steampunky lolita coord, but didn’t quite like how everything was working so switched out my skirt for these overalls (another Japan purchase) and I honestly think it works as a casual ouji coord!

And I mean, even if my outfit could be argued to not be ouji at all, I was still going to share it because I also wanted to share James’s outfit! I love it when we dress up together and I think he makes a very handsome ouji accessory ^__^

My Coord
Overalls: Punyus
Blouse and beret: Offbrand
Socks: Angelic Pretty
Shoes: Bodyline

James’s Coord
Vest & shorts: Lyris Design
Shirt, tie & boots: Offbrand
Socks: Angelic Pretty

I really love how James coords his ouji outfits, it’s never what I would do myself but it always works so well! Also, have a cute shoe shot I took of him…

Speaking of shoes, my Bodyline ones finally gave up the ghost that day. RIP shoes, you were good to me for many years.

That was going to be it for the month, as I was keeping it quiet since I'm still recovering from the 2019 burnout. But then COVID-19 happened and at the end of March I found myself working from home. And I decided I was going to take full advantage of it and dress in lolita!

My first WFH outfit was pretty simple, but quite cute and made me feel all pumped up to get to work!

OP & Necklace: Lady Sloth Verrry Berry Picnic
Bolero: Banned
Socks: Angelic Pretty
Everything else: Offbrand/Taobao

After my first day of working from home I actually sat down with a list of my main pieces, sorted from last worn to most recently worn, and came up with an outfit for each of them. I'm not a morning person, so having the thinking part done beforehand helps me get ready! So at the start of my first full week for working from home, I wore a piece I hadn't worn yet at all - Queen Cat.

Skirt: Enchantlic Enchantilly Queen Cat
Cutsew: The Black Ribbon
OTKS: Metamorphose temps de fille
Everything else: Offbrand/Taobao

Again, it's a simple outfit, but I liked it well enough (though I eventually want to do something dramatic and OTT with this print!) and it was very satisfying to more this skirt from "never worn" to "most recently worn". It is a bit tight on the waist though, so I did change into my PJs after lunch (shhhh don't tell my manager!).

My last outfit for the month (but it was Tuesday, so mid-work week) was once again pretty casual, but definitely sweet this time and I loved it! Besides, I think we all know by now that casual I just how I do it ^__^

Skirt & Shoes: Bodyline
Cutsew & Headbow: Angelic Pretty
Everything else: Offbrand

I am really enjoying starting to wear lolita again, and it looks like I'll be wearing it a lot for a while due to the whole self-isolation thing. If this keeps up, I'll be sharing my next roundup quite a lot sooner than usual so stay tuned ^__^

AYWI30C #19: Based around a particular top

When I came up to this prompt in the challenge I literally stood in front of my wardrobe and thumbed through my blouses. I wanted to work with one that was an interesting piece, rather than a neutral, and also something I hadn't used in this series. I tossed around a couple of different ideas, but in the end decided to base the coord around my Angelic Pretty Petit Patisserie cutsew.

And I am so glad I chose it, because one again this challenge led me to a coord I can say with certainty I would never have come up with otherwise. Why? Because it turns out this cutsew really doesn't match anything I own!

But by this point I was committed to the idea and decided I was going to make it work with my Lyris underbust JSK. Even though the JSK is a more classic piece, it's not overwhelmingly classic and the cutsew is simple enough in cut that despite the sweet print it kind of goes. I just had to make the rest of the outfit tie it all together!

First I raided my sock drawer and discover that there Met OTKS were perfect - they matched the cutsew in colour, and the JSK with the more classical ivory motif.

Then I brought in a little more sweetness with this Angelic Pretty cookie necklace (which is seriously so freaking cute!). The rest of my jewellery I kept quite understated - partially to avoid going to sweet for the JSK, but mostly because I actually don't have much sweet jewellery that goes with brown!

My headwear, which I didn't take a close up of, was chosen to once again straddle the sweet-classic line, as well as carry through the different shades of brown (the chosen pieces are a closer match for the JSK).

Last of all, I thought that going with pink shoes (also, new shoe alert!) and bag really cemented the look, emphasising the cutsew print and also adding a bit more of a playful touch.

In the end I really love this outfit I came up with. Like I said, I would not have gotten there without this prompt challenge but I really think I made this sweet look work despite using a more classic JSK. Do you think the outfit works, or is there too much contrast between the different elements? Let me know!

Coordinates from July - August 2019

I'll admit - most of July passed with nary a coordinate. Mostly when I wanted to wear lolita it was either very cold, or I was in a bit of a slump and not up for the effort of dressing up. Meh, it happens.

However, in the final few days of the month I wore lolita for a self portrait photoshoot. It wasn't a full coordinate (no petticoat, and below my dress I was only wearing my ugg boots) but I figure it still counts! I also didn't get a properly clear photo of the outfit, so enjoy one of my artsy shots! The rest are on my Facebook page if you'd like to see ^__^

JSK: Lyris Design
Cloak: Sweet Dreamer
Everything else: Offbrand/taobao

Then August also passed with practically no lolita - though to be fair, I was really sick for 2+ weeks of the month, so I barely got out of my pyjamas. But while we (because yes, James had the death flu too) were still sick we had a photoshoot we had to do, so I decided to dress up in my role as assistant. And it made me so, so happy to do so. I hadn't realised quite how much I'd missed frilling up! It does help that James showers me in compliments when I dress up ^__^

OP: Lady Sloth Verrry Berry Picnic
Socks: Angelic Pretty
Shoes: Metamorphose temps de fille
Everything else: Offbrand/taobao/Closet Child

And as a bonus, we tested some lighting ideas (and a pink wall) while our model was doing outfit changes, so there are going to be more photos of this look on my Facebook page!

So yeah, still not a very active couple of months in terms of lolita but cest la vie, there's more to life than pretty clothes - though the pretty clothes do bring a ray of sunshine into my life ^__^

NZ 2018 Day 4: Our wedding day

Waking up on Friday, the last day of August and the last day of Winter (yes, we chose that date for a reason), felt a little surreal. We were still sick, still tired, but excited. All the time though, it just felt natural. We’ve lived together for over seven years now and we’d mutually decided to take the next step, but it wasn’t going to change how we lived or who we were or what we meant to each other. We were so casual about it the whole day, it was a really pleasant experience.

The relaxed attitude definitely came in handy because this was another rainy morning, which dashed our plans of taking photos by the water. Spoiler alert; it did clear up enough for us to get other photos later, so don’t feel bad for us!

Anyhow, we woke up, cuddled a bit like usual, then got up to get ready. I made sure to have some toast, otherwise I knew I’d be hangry later since we probably weren’t going to be finished up until around three in the afternoon. And I really do get grumpy if I’m not fed on time! Then we got dressed into our beautiful outfits by Lyris Design. I’ll be posting a full review about our experience with her eventually but the short of it is she’s fabulous and does really beautiful work. We were dressed up, but still us! I did my make-up, Nat helped me affix my veil to my hair (also, sidenote, veils are super annoying!) and then, since our photographer hadn’t arrived yet, we took some selfies and I tried getting artsy with our rings.

Dave the photographer arrived soon afterwards, congratulated us, and took a few photos of all of us indoors. We made sure to tell him to get some nice couple photos of Nat and Luke together as well throughout the day since they both looked really nice as well!

Then, trying not to get too wet, we got into the van. Luke drove, with Nat up front, Dave was in the middle set of seats, and James and I were at the very back. Dave took some photos of us in the car, and also handed the camera over to us for a while so we could take some more selfies.

We had some trouble when we got into Wellington, because the car parking station we had found on google maps was tiny, full, and almost impossible to turn our van around in. Sorry Luke! But we got out of there with a lot of swearing, and found some street parking. Nat ducked out to pre-pay at the meter, and we all scrambled out of the van and under the shop awning at the side of the road. It was still raining. But we had umbrellas and the wet weather actually allowed for some nice photos as we walked a hundred metres or so to the Archive building where the registry office was located.

Once inside, we shook off our dampness and I looked around to see where in the massive building we were meant to go, which was up the stairs and to the left. Obviously, with my veil and flowers and all I was recognisably a bride, so the man at the desk just said my name and I confirm that it was me. He directed us across to the room where wedding ceremonies were performed and said the celebrant would be with us shortly, so we all went into the plain but neat and nice room.

It was a bit empty, with just the four of us and Dave, but that’s exactly how we wanted it. In a minute our celebrant Daniel arrived and introduced himself. His nails were painted pink, which James complimented him on and he said his daughter had done it! So cute, especially because he was a big Maori man ^__^

We joked around for a bit, and then we got in position, Daniel told us how the ceremony would go, and we were ready for our vows. James was first, and repeated after Daniel “I do not know” – and I started crying. And didn’t stop till we were married (James knew it was going to happen and brought tissues in his pocket, but I was surprised at myself lol). The ceremony was very short, and very sweet. I was just so overjoyed to be marrying James! He was also really sweet, and kept touching my face and smiling all the time. It was adorable.

James took this version of the artsy ring photo ^__^

We signed the papers, exchanged rings, and then it was done! We were married! And, being all romantic like I am, my first words as a wife were "does anyone have any tissues?" because I needed more, promptly followed by an exclamation about how those were my first married words! Cue the laughter. James also had the smart idea to take the GoPro with us for the ceremony, so we have that on film for ever ^__^

It was great, it really was, and we took a few more photos around the room after Daniel left, since we had the space for a hour. Then James asked "who's up for some tea?" so we all went back out to the cafe near the entrance.

Nat and Luke grabbed some breakfast as well as beverages, and James and I both got juice alongside our tea. The waitstaff were super sweet, and while we were sitting and chatting in our booth they even came over with some slices cut into cute little squares as a congratulations for James and I. Unfortunately he couldn't eat them, but I happily devoured them for both of us.

As we were wrapping up we noticed that the rain had stopped outside, so we decided to still go ahead with our original plan to go to the Botanic Gardens for further photos. Back to the van we went, then we got a bit lost on the way because GPS can do strange, strange things, and then we arrived at the Gardens.

We took a range of photos in the Gardens, but in the end we weren't actually happy with our photos. Dave was kind enough to let us edit them ourselves, which was something we really wanted, but a lot were poorly lit, in bad focus, or only one of us looked good! So it sucks that we don't really have any proper photos that we like. Even the ones int he post are only okay, in our eyes, but I still wanted to show a bit.

We spent a little while, just half an hour or so, taking photos in a small area of the Gardens. They were really beautiful and I'd have loved to have spent more time there, and not just for photos, but we were just so sick and tired that half an hour was all we could manage!

So we wandered back out and to the van. Since we'd wrapped up earlier than anticipated, Nat and Luke were planning to spend the afternoon at Zealandia while Dave flew back to Australia and James and I went to our wedding night hotel, the QT Museum. We were in luck, and a taxi driver was taking a break just a few parking spaces behind where we had parked the van, so Dave, James and I went one way while Nat and Luke went another. The taxi driver dropped us off at our hotel first and we piled out. We were a bit damp and dishevelled, dragging small suitcases, and I'd changed from my heels into my teal blue sneakers because my feet hurt. But we were happy and married and everyone was so nice!

A porter took our bags, we checked in, and made our way up to our room. And what a lovely room it was! It was technically one of their studio apartment style rooms, so there was a small kitchenette but more importantly there was a massive bath and epic rain shower, and a bed strewn with dried rose petals.

Isn't that just the sweetest thing? I'd mentioned when booking that it would be our wedding night, but we hadn't booked a romance package or anything like that. But not only did we get the rose petals, we got a complimentary bottle of champagne when the porter came up with our bags. We also got some free drink vouchers since there was construction scaffolding outside our room, which was a nice touch even though it didn't bother us at all.

We're neither of us into champagne, but we still popped the bottle and had a little toast to ourselves as we changed into our pyjamas and slothed around the room. It was really nice to get comfortable and lazy and just play some mobile games together. We also attacked the minibar with a vengeance - it was our wedding day after all! And we ordered room service for the same reason!

Our initial plan for the day was to not leave the hotel at all, but we were sore and wanted a massage (which I eventually managed to book at a nearby Thai place after difficulties with the place associated with the hotel), and also thought we'd head down to the lobby bar to claim our complimentary drinks. So after a good time of lazing about, eating and drinking, watching part of The Last Jedi on TV, enjoying the enormous bath, and you know, typical wedding night things, we got dressed into proper pants and headed out into the evening.

We got a little lost, but then re-oriented ourselves and swung by a local supermarket to grab some energy drinks for the next day, which was going to be a driving day. Then we made our way to the massage place, passing this (and more!) interesting bars and restaurants on the way.

The massage place was located up a slim flight of stairs, and we had to ring the intercom to get let up. In our town there are a number of "massage parlours" upstairs so we were a tiny bit doubtful for a moment, but once we got up it was all legitimate. The massage was very good and relaxing - though a live rock band starting playing somewhere nearby part way through! I also still had my cough which was uncomfortable at times, trying not to cough all over the masseuse or myself.

Actually, I'm not sure if I mentioned the cough yet, but that was the worst part of my sickness because whenever I lay down it was worse. I did not sleep anywhere near enough this whole trip because of it, which in turn probably didn't help me get better. Now you know, lol.

But anyway, back on topic. After our massage we went back into the street and back to the hotel. We went up to our room briefly to drop off the energy drinks and use the bathroom, then went on down to the bar. Our bartender was a lovely young Canadian woman, who made James his typical grasshopper and me something with St Germain after I told her about the yummy cocktail from Charley Noble the night before. It wasn't the same, but it was still tasty. We got to talking a lot and we gushed about getting married, of course, and showed her some of our Instagram snaps from the day. Turns out she loved my socks so I pointed her in the direction of Innocent World and Angelic Pretty.

After a while we got up to leave...and discovered that we hadn't read the fine print on the drink vouchers which only covered beer and wine. Oh well. We were told we could use it at the main restaurant though, which was good because we were going there for breakfast the next morning.

We took our time going back up to our room, taking a good look at the thing that made the QT Museum unique - its art collection.

We did have one funny moment while looking at the art. One piece was a lushly padded, oversized door, which James was looking at...until the concierge walked out and asked if we needed anything! Turns out it was just a door, but with all the eclectic art around we thought it was an art piece! A little embarrassing at the time, but hilarious afterwards, and really makes you think about what constitutes as art.

Also, an interesting thing we learned from the bar staff (not sure if it was our bartender or the other one on staff) the building the hotel was in was the first building to be picked up and moved - it used to be located where the Te Papa Museum is! That's just fascinating and bordering on magic in my eyes.

So up we went to our room, where we enjoyed a luxurious rain shower and ordered another round of room service for dinner. Then it was off to bed for the first time as husband and wife ^__^

PS At some time on our wedding day James let it slip that he was collecting mementos from wherever we went to put into a memory box when we got home. He's so romantic and sweet and I just died a little of happiness when I found this out ^__^

Coordinates from November - December 2018

I didn't think I'd wear lolita much as the weather grew warmer, but it turns out 2018 ended with a bang! In the lolita sense, that is ^__^

My first lolita outfit in November came about because I wanted to wear my Sailor Moon/Steven Universe shirt to go with James to get his Sailor Moon finger tattoos done! I love my man so much...Sailor Moon finger tattoos!

Ahem. On the lolita front I just wanted to run with something comfy and cute to match the t-shirt, and this is what I ended up with.

Skirt: Metamorphose temps de fille Patisserie Dream
Shirt: TeePublic
Everything else: Bodyline/taobao/offbrand

Also, he really rocks having finger tats and now I am 95% committed to getting a Sailor Moon tattoo myself now... (and the staff at the tattoo parlour kept asking me where I wanted these ones...and I'd just reply "on him!")

The next time I wore lolita was with James, and by with I mean with because he wore ouji! We went together to the Sydney Lolita Christmas meet, and I already blogged a lot about the whole thing here. Here's a rundown of both our outfits! Unfortunately I don't have solo photos because the card from the camera has gone AWOL, so have a shot of us together for my rundown then one of James on his own for his! And because he's cute, so I want to share it anyway ^__^

JSK & Flower Crown: Lyris Design
Blouse: Bodyline
Shoes: Taobao
Socks: Innocent World
Wristcuffs: Angelic Pretty
Everything else: Offbrand

Shorts, vest, and shirt: Lyris Design
Hat: Modified vintage
Everything else: Offbrand

Also, just need to put it out there...how cute is he?! He even replaced the laces in his boots to match his hat. Which he modified wonderfully. And I should also mention that, despite what you may expect, I had no real hand in putting his coord together - it was all him!

I next wore lolita to my work Christmas party, purely because our dress code mandated we wear a hat and I'd only recently received my straw boater. So I decided to wear it with my Metamorphose Rose Stripe Shirring Pinafore JSK which is basically the main dress I'd bought the hat to match! For the rest of my outfit, I pulled out a few of my trusty staple pieces to go with it.

JSK: Metamorphose temps de fille
Bolero: Handmade
Shoes: Bodyline
Hat: Taobao
Socks: Offbrand

However, we need to have a moment of silence. My shoes, that I have worn so long and so well, gave up the ghost on this day. The left sole started coming detached at the toe and, combined with getting some sand in there that just won't come out, means that these shoes are pretty much goners. James is going to attempt repairing and cleaning them for me, but their time may have finally come.

Then I wore lolita for work again, this time for my last day. It was a really bittersweet day but I'm glad I wore lolita for it. One co-worker had said I should wear the socks I'd been gifted at the Christmas party the week before, then another had said I should come in full, proper lolita...so I did both! And I liked the result quite a bit, especially because trying to tie the socks in pushed me a bit out of my usual comfort zone.

Skirt: Handmade
Cutsew: Angelic Pretty
Shoes: Bodyline
Everything else: Offbrand/taobao

I also wore lolita briefly for this years Christmas photoshoot, because my tartan BTSSB dress is just perfect for Christmas-y looks. If you want to see the rest of the photos, check out James's Facebook page or my Facebook page ^__^

Last of all, I organised a Christmas meet for the Newcastle community. I haven't had a chance to blog about this yet but spoiler alert; James came too! Two meets in one month! So here's a rundown of both our coordinates, me in a general Christmas theme and him as a reindeer.

And have a group shoe shot since my feet aren't in the really pretty photo James took for me and I wanted to use the pretty one  ^__^

I also need to mention...December was not my month for shoes because these ones broke completely on me! James had noticed it looked like the sole was coming loose, so he did some pre-emptive gluing but it was still not enough and by the end of the meet the soles were barely hanging on to the shoe. But oh well. They're one of my least-worn shoes anyway so I don't mind too much.

Anyway, onto James's coordinate!

Pants: FanPlusFriend
Shirt: Lyris Design
Jabot: Peacockalorum
Socks: Innocent World
Boots: Doc Martens
Ears & boot covers: Taobao
Berry clips: Handmade

Ahhhh again I can't get over how damn cute he is! Squee! I had more influence in this outfit, and the main concept and shirt/pants combo was my suggestion, but once again James took the styling in his own way (including making the clips on his braces) and came out looking amazing.

In the end, December was quite an active lolita month for me (and James, hehehe)! I had a lot of fun with lolita this year and was glad to keep up the habit of wearing it regularly. Since I enjoyed doing it last year I will probably put up a wardrobe analysis post in a little bit but for now, that's all folks!
