It's been a while, but I'm back on my bullshit with a bittersweet capsule wardrobe! I also posted a video about putting this together (and generally rambling about bittersweet as a valid lolita substyle) on my YouTube channel.
This capsule was a load of fun to put together, and I enjoyed balancing the edgy with the typically lolita. As with many styles, the true bittersweet nature would really come out in how you wear outfits from this capsule - scene hair and a studded wristband would really make anything look different that naturally styled hair and lolita wrist cuffs, for example.
However, certain items - notably the MCR band tee, the Skelepony bag, the Angelic Pretty cat ears (nyaa!), the AP sneakers and that AP pleather jacket - are not your typical lolita options.
I really love how this one turned out. I think it provides a huge range of options from bittersweet to regular sweet and everywhere in between.
Because I felt a little extra extra this time, I did six outfits with each main piece. And while some pieces - namely the pink x lavender and the grey x black JSKs - were a bit more limited on potential, I still think I got some not-too-repetitive outfits from them.
The Sugary Carnival OP was an absolute dream to coord with. It works with everything and you can do looks that are simple, looks that are typically lolita, looks that are more OTT and looks that stray away from conventional lolita ideals. Again, styling would make an even more noticeable difference but even in these simple layouts I think you can see the variety.
The Cotton Candy Shirring JSK is definitely the most out-of-place piece but as you can see, it does still work with black, though you do have to be more careful how you style it there. While obviously a main piece that featured black would have fit the wardrobe more easily, I think this JSK gives some much-needed lightness and stops it all from being too samey.
The Candy Treat Colorful Ribbon JSK, much like Sugary Carnival, works with everything almost too well. It honestly felt like cheating to put these looks together! And damn, working with it digitally really made me fall even more in love with this print...
The Present Ribbon JSK fulfills a complementary role to the Cotton Candy JSK. Being only black and grey, it provides a calm point in the wardrobe, but it can absolutely be sweetened up with some pink or lavender, and totally works as a bittersweet piece.
Though I just realised I didn't coord it with the Skelepony bag...whoops!
Lastly, the Candy Pop Skirt is another easy one. Personally, I am totally vibing with this skirt and the band tee combo, but I'm a lover of casual lolita so that's no surprise. While the shape of this is very typically lolita, the black and pink colour scheme, combined with the loudness of the polka dots, really makes it pretty in-your-face, and I like that.
It was really fun to make a capsule wardrobe again...and I already have a couple more in the works! Doing this one actually really got me back into the lolita groove, which made me really happy because (as you might have guessed by my lack of posting anything here) I haven't been feeling it much lately.
So yeah, that's that for now! Dropping a direct embed of the YouTube video just for the sake of it and singing off for now ^__^
Big yes for more capsule wardrobes, I love them!
